5 Reasons To Try Fedora 21!
Fedora 21 is well on its way to being released in early December, and it brings with it a ton of goodies! Plus, since Fedora is known for being a cutting-edge distribution, there will be a lot of interesting software and technologies that you’ll get to use. Since Fedora moves so fast, it’s important to have these new releases.
Let’s take a look at what one of the most popular distributions will be offering with its upcoming release.
Finally, A New Fedora Release!
Fruits Of Restructuring
After Fedora 20 was released, the Fedora Project decided to go through some restructuring of how they did things in order to be more competitive in the future. This shift was going to take some time, so we all knew that we might have to stick with Fedora 20 for a lot longer than we’ve ever stuck to any Fedora release before. But now, that restructuring is complete, and Fedora is offering a new lineup. We now have Workstation, Server, and Cloud images, where Workstation is the new name for the desktop Fedora images that you know and love. I bet this new name was “inspired” by Red Hat, but the name thankfully doesn’t mean the Fedora desktop suddenly became business only.
New Software
Improved Polish
Despite only being an alpha, a lot of writers around the Web say that Fedora 21 is very polished and stable. I certainly have to agree with them, as I haven’t come across a single issue while playing around with it. Polish was a criticism quite common to Fedora, and during the restructuring the developers made an effort to fix that. I’d say they did a very good job, and it can only get better with the beta and final release.
COPR Repositories
While not necessarily new for this release, Fedora is also emphasizing the use of COPR repositories, which are akin to Ubuntu’s PPAs. This is an effort to make it easier for third-party developers to make their software available for Fedora, which is a key part toward increasing Fedora’s adoption rates. Fedora used to be the go-to distribution, but lost that position once Ubuntu rose to prominence. I’m very interested to see how well these will be used.
Getting the Pre-Release
Fedora 21: The Most Polished Release Yet
Fedora 21 is quite an exciting release that I’ll continue to follow through the rest of the alpha and beta phases. If you haven’t ever tried Fedora before, then this may be the best release to try out once it’s final. If you already use Fedora, then be sure to upgrade when it comes out as you’ll be very pleased.
What’s your opinion of the new-look Fedora? Will you be trying it out? Let us know in the comments!

VMware expands desktop virtualization to Linux!
- VMware's VMware Horizon desktop virtualization software suite will soon deliver virtual Linux desktops over a network, in addition to the Microsoft Windows desktops it has long provided for remote workers.
The company has launched an early access program for customers to test a version of Horizon 6 that can package server-based Red Hat and Ubuntu Linux desktops so they can be accessed from remote computers and mobile devices.
[ Find out how to get all the advantages of a desktop PC but none of the hassles in InfoWorld's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Deep Dive report. Download the PDF today! | Get the latest insight on the tech news that matters from InfoWorld's Tech Watch blog. ]
Although Windows remains the dominant platform for enterprise desktops, at least a small percentage of organizations use Linux instead, according to market reports.
VMware Horizon for Linux Early Access Program addresses this market segment of Linux desktops. The software is designed to allow administrators to control their organization's Linux virtual desktops with the same tools that they use to manage their Windows virtual desktops.
Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) software can be handy for organizations that have mobile workers who need to access applications and desktop environments from multiple devices. Virtual desktops can also simplify the large-scale management of software and operating systems.
VMware's Horizon 6, released a year ago, consolidated VMware desktop virtualization products into a single suite. The suite covers both the back-end management of the desktops and applications as well as the delivery of this software to different end-user devices such as mobile phones and computers.
Thursday, the company updated Horizon 6 with additional capabilities for managing three-dimensional images and for integrating into software defined networks (SDNs).
The software now supports VMware NSX, which is the company's set of technologies for virtualizing network resources, allowing administrators to set up and tear down virtual networks more quickly.
To enable 3D graphics, VMware has worked with graphics card maker Nvidia to use that company's virtual GPU technology on the server side so that it can deliver rich graphics to the remote desktop. The software also provides a way for remote applications to access files from a thumb drive plugged into the user's machine.
VMware Horizon starts at $250 per seat, and is sold in lots of 10 or 100.

Top 5 reasons why to choose Computer Science over Information Technology!
You've been wondering what the hell is the difference between this two courses. Is Information Technology suits you? Or Computer Science is actually the best for you? You choose! But first, let me give you a little background of what is IT? and what is CS?.
In IT ....
- students will study network and database design in depth, and receive an introduction to basic theory and applied mathematics. Successful IT candidates will possess strong critical thinking skills; IT professionals are tasked with resourcefully and cost-effectively applying the tools at their disposal.
In CS ....
- students will learn the fundamentals of different programming languages, linear and discrete mathematics, and software design and development. Computer scientists study the machine itself and understand how and why various computer processes operate the way they do.
Simply put, computer scientists can talk to computers. The field is based in mathematics—the language of computers. Computer scientists understand why computers work and can create a program or operating system that does what you want it to do.
So are you ready for the Top 5 Reasons to choose CS over IT?
1. SALARY. Yes Salary!
- What's basically the first thing that comes into your mind when choosing a course? Of course, salary! In 2014, Stanford University (San Francisco, California) conducted a survey to batch 2012-2013 graduated students with major in computer science. Within a year of working, A whooping ranging from $65,000-$125,000 is the total salary they have earned. But here in the Philippines computer science graduates can have a starting salary ranging from 25,000-55,000 pesos over to the Information Technology graduates with a starting salary ranging from 15,000-40,000 pesos. So you might wan't to take the opportunity to work abroad if your main reason is to become rich as Bill Gates within a year.
2. Companies love Computer Science Graduates!
- You heard it right, We are more flexible with the range of job opportunities that most of the companies need today. A CS degree will expose you to a wider variety of technical skills necessary for a variety of jobs that such as software development, programming, network administration, gaming, and database management. Also it teaches you how to create, develop, and manage software or applications so you have a more specific set of skills which can also be a good asset and better overall .
3. Computer Science is a Road to many fields!
- Computer science education will give you a solid grounding in logic, strategic thinking and teamwork. And of course, CS will enable you to do cool things with software! Through your elective choices you can choose to specialize in databases/data mining, networking and systems, artificial intelligence, security, or software engineering.
4. You are really a "SCIENTIST"
- When you say computer science, we can be called SCIENTIST. It's cool, And it's a pleasure to be called a "Scientist" by some professionals because you are a graduate in a science related course right? When we say scientists, we study even if we are working. We create and explore in new dimensions so that we can make a solution to the upcoming problems that we might face. We are the creative minds behind applications and programs, designing and building programs and applications for computers and technological devices.
5. It's just CS is alot and way more better than IT!
- Aside from the said reasons above. We're like the roots in the trees and IT is just the leaves or maybe the fruit . IT degrees usually cover far more topics than Computer Science degrees, which could limit your exposure to in-depth programming fundamentals. You may learn how to write for one type of programming, but it may be more difficult to change and learn another type later. While on the other side, Computer Science is primarily about sharpening your programming abilities. You don’t just learn how to write code, but in the lesson plans for many online IT degrees you also learn why the code works on your computer the way it does.
So Are you ready for your chosen course? Will it Information Technology or Computer Science?
I hope this article helps you! Cheers!
